    PSB Question

    Hi,

    I planted my PSB (Early Purple) late Feb / early March and the plants look to be growing well. A couple of the plants have started flowering already even though the packet says harvest would be the next Feb-May. Is this normal or are these flowers not the ones that are meant to be eaten? (Sorry, this is my first time growing them and have no idea what to expect!)

    When you say "planted" do you mean planted or sowed seed. My pack of Early PSB says to sow seed March to May and transplant to permanent position in July/August for cropping next February to May. Having said that, what you have in your picture is a perfectly edible sprout - cut it, cook it lightly and enjoy.

        Sorry, yes, I mean sowed rather than planted. My packet says the same thing - how strange that it has produced purple sprouts so early, I probably only sowed the seeds one or two weeks earlier than the packet said.

        I will do! I've never eaten PSB before so I'm looking forward to it! Fortunately, it's only two of the plants that have produced sprouts so far. Hopefully the rest will hang on till the winter.
