  • No pods/beans on my dwarf runners!

I am growing dwarf runner beans in a pot, think they are hestia.
They look really healthy with plenty of red and white flowers.
However the flowers fall off and I get no beans.
I wondered if it is to do with pollination - but there are plenty of bees in the garden.
    Any ideas?

Sounds like a pollination problem. I grew dwarf runners a couple of years ago and I didn't find them as nearly prolific as the full grown variety.

Spraying them with water may help.

I've had the same problem with my "Stardust" - loads of flowers, but they fall off. Its been really dry here - we have missed the showers that have been around for the past few days, and I've been spraying the flowers with water when I water them. We are due rain tomorrow and it will be interesting to see if that improves things.

It has also been very dry here so as roitelet suggests I may try spraying them for a while and see if that helps.

"the old idea that misting runner beans with water helps them to set pods is a myth."

Thanks for that - I always thought lack of moisture was the main reason, but this is the first time in 15 years that I have tried to grow runner beans.

                As an update.
I moved the dwarf runners down to the flower part of the garden and I now have loads of inch long beans.
Not sure if it was the bees that helped or if I just had to be more patient!
