hi all i am in the process of started up an allotment for some children with the cadets its a charitable organisation and was wondering if anybody had any tips or advice for me please i have a few of the most common seeds ready for planting but was wondering if you could tell me of any which are quite cheap and easy to grow thanks ,,

Hi and welcome........Places like wilkinsons and lidls (or Aldi) generally sell cheap seeds. I've found that things like runner beans are generally easy and crop well

As Binley said.
Radish are really fast but kids sometimes don't like eating them, peas are great eaten fresh from the pod.
Maybe find out what they like to eat veg wise, then go from there.You have to loose sight of the shore sometimes to cross new oceans

There's still time to plant some potatoes. If all the seed potatoes have sold out, just get some 'eating' potatoes, but get a few varieties as some are treated to stop them growing. Leave them on a bench or windowsill, and if they start to produce generous shoots thet should be OK
Potatoes are perhaps not very exiting or imaginative, but they are fairly robust and foolproof, so you will at least get something to grow; they also produce an impressive amount of foliage
Don't bother with fancy trenches, just make a hole about 8'' deep and pop them in, with about 12'' between each spud
Why not get the kids to bring one spud each from home?Comment

Peas are definitely a good idea, I haven't found a child yet that doesn't like peas fresh from the pod. And they're easy to grow too. You still have time to sow sweetcorn and pumpkins always go down down well with the kids too: they're dual purpose - eating and decorating for Halloween

I picked up a couple of packets of seeds from Netto a few days ago, all there seeds were 19p
I'm a newbie gardener and I found that rocket was quick and easy to grow
