  • Is my sweetcorn ready?

The whiskers turn brownish but when I had a peep the grains were still small and very light yellow color

Put your fingernail into one of the kernels. If the liquid that comes out is clear they aren't ready, if it's milky they are ready. Some varieties go more yellow when you cook them.

Some corns are paler than others depending on the variety.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

I tend to look at it, when I think it's ready...…………………………..I wait at least two more days as I know I am impatient. I have found it very difficult to do the finger nail test without almost pulling the thing to bits trying to expose the kernels.

I tried that a couple of years back... in the two extra days the squirrels came and ate all of them!!!!!
