I was thinking of growing the two together. Are there any benefits or would you not bother.

I am growing sweet peas with my garden peas as I read somewhere that the S.P. attracts bees for pollination. I assume morning glory would work in the same way? They'll look pretty anyway!! -
They'll look pretty if you like Morning Glory (I'm not very keen personally but hey, we all like different stuff) but it won't help with your pea production as peas tend to self pollinate before the flowers open. If you like them then I'd be more inclined to grow them nearby but you could try and see how it works. Personally I tend to grow peas with pretty flowers and put a few sweet peas with my runners and leave it at that but that might just be lazyiness.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Morning glory (if and when it gets going) will twine all over the place (remember it is similar to bindweed). I can't see any advantage in growing it with peas.Comment

BigMallly I think they would go best with Sweet Peas as they both do well when fed/ watered lavishly- and just imagine the colours!Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?Comment

Well I'm growing both. Bindweed by any other name is still pretty to look at. I have a frame round my dwarf apply tree and will plant the morning glory, thunbergia and sweet pea to climb round it. I so much prefer climbing and trailing flowers to statics. I do also grow sweet pea in front of the runner bean.Comment

I like to see the pea flowers. Mainly because I tend to grow peas with lovely flowers! Also because I sometimes try to cross pollinate peas and want to get at them. I think Morning Glory might be a bit thuggish and drown them out.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I've always found Morning Glories to be a much less thuggish plant than its wild cousin, tbh. So much so that I have discovered they need nurturing! Now what's the opposite of green fingers? Maybe I have those!Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?Comment

Well, I didn't expect so many replies, all varying as well. Thank you so much. I think I will keep the morning glory & sweet peas seperate. I am growing mangetout & petit pois for the first time so not sure what the flowers are like. I would imagine similar to a sweet pea. I have got plenty of trellising around the garden that accomodate these climbers. they dont like to be sown early,grow mine in sm peat pots,water in and leave in sun in greenhouse to bake for a few days before adding any more water,they have some fantastic colours now...Originally posted by Brengirl View PostComment

If they grow well for you BM you will have fresh gorgeous blue flowers unfurling every day as the sun hits them during the flowering season - the Heavenly blue are just that.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?Comment

I sowed morning glory and mangetout peas over the weekend and they are both poking up already. I'll be grow a squash up the same trellis as the peas. Squash up the sides and over above the peas. The morning glory will be getting tucked everywhere else there is a spare bit of height though. I thought they might look quite cool growing up sunflowers.
The mangetout peas I'm growing are Carouby de Maussanne which had really pretty purple flowers last year. I think runner beans are quite pretty too, I've got mixed white/red/pink ones
