    More Potato Questions - How many?

    As a real beginner, I'm reading great stuff about chitting etc in these forums. Better than most books I have looked at.

    Now my question is, how do I calculate how many tubers to buy?
    How many will I get in a 3kg bag?
    How many rows (5m) will that plant?
    How many can I expect to harvest from a 3kg planting?

    or should I go back to the books

    Hi Pete.
    You asked how many will I get in a 3kg bag?
    The answer is 40 seed potatoes approximately. This information is based on a 1.5kg bag having 20.

      Might sound an obvious answer, but it depends how big they are If you work on 13 per kg it will be about right

        Sorry about that pete, clicked the wrong button!

        the different varieties are planted at different spacings about 12-18" for earlies and 18-24" for lates is usually reccomended. As to yeilds have a look at this that I lifted from somewhere else (cant remeber where)

          Don't go mad buying loads of seed potatoes. I would recommend you choose two varieties and buy a 1.5 kilo bag of each. See how you get on with these. You can then grow more or less next year.

              The site is my work, the factsheet I lifted from somewhere else (can't remember where) but I thought I'd take it to work and print a few out and then we could hand them out at the lottie site if we get any beginners start that want that sort of info.

              All to often people (myself included) get something and think I could get a dozen of those in to be greeted by a mountain that would make the EEC proud, so I found it usefull.
