  • Marketmore cucumbers

    Hi all,
I am growing cucumbers for the first time and am really impressed that I have some growing. Does anyone know how big I should let it get before harvesting it. Currently it's around 6 inches long.

Any advise would be gratefully received.

ASsuming it's your standard outdoor Marketmore I'd have thought anytime from about 8" to around a foot..... they don't get as long as indoor cukes like Telegraph..... you could probably cut it at 6" TBH, it depends on how many plants you've got.....if you've got several then take them smaller and more often.....You don't want to let it go yellow thoguh, eat it when it's still green adn be warend that the skin is tougher than an indoor one so you might want to do the "peel a strip, leave a strip" thing to it.......wish my Marketmores were lokoing a bit happier.... they all had a grand fit of the squash sulks when I planted them out a couple of weeks ago and are only just coming out of it....

I usually cut and use at 6 - 8" - it encourages more to grow.

Thank you for the advice. It is a standard marketmore outdoor cucumber although I am cheating a little and growing it in the GH which has door and window permanently open.
It has grown again in the night so as the weather is lovely I suspect after reading your comments it may become lunch today
Especially if that encourages more to grow

I'm growing Marketmore in my GH too. They are really coming on well. Enjoy your harvest!

Mine are in a plastic gh, and don't seem to want to grow vertically!

They can be stubborn, I've let mine grow quite tall and then gently leant them into the big square bean and pea netting I attatched to the back of the GH. They are slowly doing as they should

Mine started with a small cane and I have a piece of willow trellis behind them so that they can grab on as they get bigger.

I have just taken down my plastic gh, as nothing in there really needs to be, so I might just do that with the bean netting. I bought some in the spring and never used it...may as well get some use out of it!

                  ps. Sorry about the hijack!

                    No worries about the hijack
Good luck with the bean netting
