Every year I start off with the idea of having a continuous crop off rocket and lettuce. The reality being gluts and gaps. My query is when can I start planting lettuce and rocket and expect reasonable growth both outdoor and in an unheated greenhouse. I would really like an early crop and then I will try, yet again, to get a continuous supply.

Sow some now. I'm sowing salad leaves every 4 weeks.
Here's some in the GH that have been growing over winter.

I don't grow rocket but I do grow other lettuce types, I find from spring to autumn it doesn't do well in my polytunnel so I mostly grow outdoors. I have "all year round" and a winter gem still in reasonable but admittedly not great condition in one of my outdoor beds, still eatable though.
I think you will need to sow about every 2 weeks to keep things going during spring and summer with a greenhouse sowing of a cold tolerant crop in about September to carry you on through the winter.
There's no reason why you couldn't start some now if you have a warm windowsill in a sunny aspect.
I've pretty much given up on cut and come again crops at the allotment as they don't store well and have to be used immediately so these might be better done at home.

Yes, just a few seeds in a pot, prick them out into modules and plant them in the GH when large enough. There's also some self seeded rocket and mixed salad leaves in there.Comment

I sow lettuce and/or rocket about every 2 weeks from February to November. In November to January I plant "living salads" from the supermarket which speeds up the process.Comment

Its my first time growing in winter. I followed Charles Dowding with winter salad and gone for Grenoble type which has been flakey to say the least. I also grew another winter type by only managed to keep one plant going due to the mould. I am doing mixed so have chinese cabbage, endive, few lettuce, mizuna, Green in the snow, Claytona, rocket, Pak choi etc. I am managing to grow enough for a feast every day but it is cut and come again style.
I will keep going with this until may when I plan to pull them all up or dig in (in the poly) I havent planted any summer seed as I have no where to grow inside the house and unsure when to plant seed????
Wild rocket is a perennial - Im assuming if you find a corner this will keep coming?
If you follow the cut and come again principal with the 2 weekly planting then you should get a good crop? I am a little wary of growing too much as it goes to waste and ruins in the fridge. Assuming you only need 2 lettuce a week then you shouldnt need to grow a lot.Comment
