  • Kelvedon wonder peas

Hi I am new to gardening in general, and this is the 1st year Ive grown veg. I am renting a house, and the garden has no prepared borders, so Ive been growing everything in pots and tubs. Ive heard that you can still sow peas as late as August. I have had great success this year with kelvedon wonder, and was wondering if it would be worthwhile in sowing some now, or if the crop wouldnt amount to much. Also, I have had some success with Lisbon spring onions, would they be worth sowing now?
    Many thanks.

Well, I might chance the spring onions, after all you can eat them at any size, even if they are small but I would'nt bother sowing peas at this late stage. Only my thinking of course and others may not agree.

And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

      Hi
I sowed peas and 3 varieties of beans last week where the pots had been taken out. Plus spring onions, carrots, onions, swede all in the same bed. The beans will grow up and the rest down, and once the beans and peas are harvested; the rest will have the space to grow foliage etc.
I don't worry too much about the rules, the beans are already 6 inches high from last week's sowing and I am sure I will get a small crop from them during sept and possibly oct if the weather is nice.
Of course, an early frost will kill them but hey - judging by this year anything can happen.

I too have had great success with both varieties and can see no reason why you should not sow now.

I have just put a pile of these peas in as the original crop has been very poor. I expect them to get some fungal infection....but I always live in hope!

Zazen (or anyone else ) - do you think it might work sowing carrots and peas in a large pot now? I've just emptied a pot and was going to put just peas in but I love your idea of the carrots as well?!

I am about to sow carrots in a trough by the back door to use in the winter. It is sheltered there and I had success with carrots sown this time last year in buckets - we ate them on Christmas day.

                Hi.
Thanks for all your replies. I have just sown cabbage and spinach, and they have both germinated in only 2 days! I think I will give the peas and beans a go, what have I got to lose!
