    Im giving up on superhots

    In the 52 days my superhot (first batch) chillies have 1 bulgarian carrot through second sowing I had a naga up 13 days ago and still nothing from my fatalii seeds, bishop crown, or peruvian purple I have scoth bonnet, purple pyrimid, hot patio sizzle, cayenne and 1 each of BC & naga!

    Why are they taking this long if there going to do something I should have been at around the 28 day mark grrrrr..........

    With that in mind if anyone has any spare plugs that we could come to a deal over

    Are you sowing them somewhere warm like a heated propagator? I always reckon on one or two chillies from a batch popping up around day 5 or 6 then the rest fairly quickly after...but have some just appearing 14 days later. I don't wait any longer but re-sow.

      Im out of seeds so re-sowing is not an option until I get more

      My first lot were in a unheated prop the second lot in a heated prop think I might give it one last sowing once I have seeds then if no success Im cheating and buying plugs

        I can't see why you'd have a problem at any time of year in a heated prop? However, in an unheated prop as well, non-thermostatically controlled ones depends on the ambient temperature of the room/place they are in. Is your heated prop 'warm enough' they (cheaper ones) just raise the inside temp a certain number of degrees above the room temp.

          I had problems this year with my first sowing, but the prop (only a basic heated one, no thermostat) was in the porch where it got quite cold overnight. I did a second sowing and brought the prop into the dining-room and had a much better result, although still only 2 thirds of them germinated.

              Hi Darcy I bet even with a heated propergator it can still get cold at night especially in my house lol
              Just a bit of food for thought, last year I started mine in November and when through put them under a normal flurescant light that cost probably 20 quid, I had to get rid of mine due to our baby but id strongly recommend it of you have space, good for bringing on tomatos too
              Considering the year we had I still had a few chillies one if them was numex orange suave

                Darcy, As VC say's there are plenty of seeds in the VSP.

                However, if you specifically want some small plants, then I am sure I have some habaneros you can have.

                  I've used a cheap heated propagator and seeds from Nicky's Nursery and I've had a great germination success rate. I soaked the seeds in warm water for about 24hr before sowing and even with seeds that have low germination rates I have been getting 60-90% to grow. I've had the propagators on a window ledge in a room that doesn't get colder than 16C.

                    The sweet peppers and other chillies that have germinated have gone really well it's just getting the b1oody seeds to germinate I am very please to say I have another bulgarian carrot through that's almost 60 days from sowing so there's still hope :/

                      Day 60 and I have a seedling in the little looping stage and it looks as if one has germinated and the leaves were stuck in the seed casing so I know im missing one!

                      Good job I didnt give up on the bulgarian carrots!

                      The heated prop has been placed under the grow lights now so heres hoping for the fatalii's and the rest of the naga's

                        I planted six cayennes a month ago in our warm south facing glass fronted dining room, and have had nowt. Do they need lots and lots of heat (21C plus) to germinate? Temperature in there varies from 15C to perhaps 22C. Would really like to grow some chillies, I like 'em hot

                          For me cayennes germinate quite quickly never had a drama with them within 2 weeks there up and ready maybe re-sow a month is a long time at those temps for cayenne but you never know!

                            Well, having complained about them only two days ago, all six cayennes are now showing little green shoots just breaking the soil. Yay! Hopefully the slow germination will produce strong plants.

                              I only have the cheaper heated prop (no thermostat) and I've managed to germinate Jalapeno, Cayenne, Fatalii, Red Cherry, Hot Lemon, Scotch Bonnet, Bulgarian Carrot, Mustard Habanero, and a few others too. I have had great difficulty with some of the habs though, I tried about 4 different types of habanero and the only ones that came through were mustard, having said that I don't have much patience and if they haven't germinated in the first 14 days they get kicked out of the prop and I re-sow.
                              Remember it's just a bad day, not a bad life 😁
