  • HELP , lettuce?

Due to my lack of planning, I've just picked the last of the lettuce!

Is there any that will grow now, outside, on plot, or have I go to the supermarket, and buy tasteless again?

Panic not, Dotty. I've just sown Winter Gem and will sow Valdor. More options listed here BBC - Gardening - Gardening Guides - Techniques - Grow your own winter salad

Lambs lettuce aka corn salad is really yummy and you may well be eating it withing 4 weeks of sowing it!

I found this link which is really interesting/informative !
      Corn Salad, Lamb's Lettuce

If you sow them under fleece- and keep it under fleece- it will germinate quicker and the leaves will be more tender...and you will be able to eat it sooner.
It's really lovely....and very popular here in France

I've done another sowing of 'all year round' plus Arctic king lettuces both do well over winter either in the GH or under cloches.

I've sown three varieties of winter lettuce and will do some direct sowings of lambs lettuce in the tunnel this weekend

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've got a plastic cloche, a metre long and about 40cm high that will be perfect for salads

I tend not to grow salad as I am the only rabbit in the family. Anything else I can sow now to grow on in an unheated greenhouse?

I always grow some brassicas in my polytunnel over winter as you can manage more tender ones (such as calabrese) and the likes of spring cabbage come quite a lot earlier than outside. I've got cabbages, small caulis, calabrese and pak choi in the greenhouse at the moment and will be planting them out in a few weeks into the tunnel border.

Wonder if it is worth trying to put a sort of raised bed affair in my greenhouse and see what I can persuade to grow over the winter in there?

Manage to find only 4 of the varieties mentioned , on this site,no Artic King, (was only Homebase), but I have
Planted 2 small rows of each today. It's now extremely wet, so they may have got washed away!

Will see if they germinate or not!
