Well after me purchasing my greenhouse I think my dad has been bitten by the bug the problem is he literally has no garden! Obviously for most things its too late this year but I was thinking would it be possible to do him up a hanging basket that he might get a few months out of he mostly interested in lettuce as he uses it quite a bit but with just him and my mum hes throwing alot out (he uses iceburg) so would there be something similar that I could plant for him now? wouldnt mind throwing a few other things in if I could but not sure what its not to late to sow.

I'd try some oriental greens or kale as they are hardier then lettuce. Depending on where you are you should be alright with some lettuce for cut and come again, but I doubt you'll get a full head (ie like an iceberg) of lettuce before it gets too cold.
It really depends where you are and where the baskets are.
Next year you can try various things I've done dwarf beans (broad and French), tomatoes are nice too.

Reply to Heated mat for Tom's and chilliesby raryI use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
