With the world record Pumpkin getting bigger and bigger, is anyone here growing a giant this year?

    Current world record 1,725 Pounds

I've bought some seeds from Marshalls of the variety that grows these monsters (Dills atlantic giant) to grow some for fun value, I wonder if anyone else is growing one of these giants? When my seeds have germinated I'll take them down to the allotment and "challenge" some fellow plot holders to a "grow off".

I've got a few of these seeds from the Seed Swap last year, so my granddaughter and I are having a contest to see who can grow the biggest, but I doubt we'll get anything as big as that!

I'll be happy if my few pumpkin seeds germinate - I sowed some for the third time this morning. Nothing showing from the other two sowings, still I'm hoping to produce a couple for my grandchildren.
My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

I sowed some "Spellbound" a while back, all came up apart from one. I dug the seed out (to check it) popped it back in..gave a bit of water...two hours later it was coming out of the compost!

I would be tempted, just for fun, but I wouldn't know what to do with the thing. I don't have access to a fork lift truck to move it. I have visions of it standing on the plot for a couple of years rotting away!

I have seen a few big ones on the allotment, I'll have to ask them how they got them moved.

I'm trying out Hundredweight for the first time this year, I don't want the world's biggest, just biggest in our autumn horticultural show....(competitive - me?)

With any luck there will be a pumpkin class in the Grapevine show too (pretty please!)

I'm growing giants again this year. I have my fingers crossed to improve on last years PB.

That'd be too tempting for me to sabotage hers!

My seven year old neice is planning to plant her Dills Atlantic Giant in the side of a massive old manure heap near her pony's stable. Can't wait to see the results.

We bought some of these for novelty value for the kids, also have jack o lanterns but last years hundredweight seeds haven't germinated at all this year, mind you the 1 pumpkin we got off them last yr was smaller than the shop bought one we carved.

I've staked out the poo-piles on the farm and have 5 of these bad boys in the greenhouse as we speak. OH is a farmer so (little does he know) I'll have him carefully fork down the biggies for giant jack-o-lanterns and maybe host a jack-o-lantern party. With pumpkin cupcakes. And pumpkin costumes. And pumpkin soup.....wanders off muttering.
