  • French Bean Transplant

once my Nautica dwarf french beans were over, I chopped back three or four plants to a couple of leaves and popped them in a pot of decent compost to take their chances. Ten days later, although they look a bit odd they are starting to flower and produce beans again. I may try this on a larger scale next year to get a second crop.

Just wondering if anyone else had tried this?

Do you mean the original plants are shooting or that the bits you cut off are?

I did that with runner beans the other year, they did look a bit dead,i put 3 to a flower bucket, next year most of them came up good, never thought about it since as i have had enough to think about,i did keep them just damp in the greenhouse,we did get some beans, would have been even better had i planted them back outside or into the ground doh.
VC i read it as the plants themselves, roots included.

Yes, LD, I assumed that's what was meant but there was no mention of digging up the plants so I wasn't sure.
Broad beans come back after cutting down and I have some Gigantes Runners that are in their 3rd year, outdoors. I don't dig them up, just cut them down in winter.

The original plants - but with a severe haircut were dug up, replanted, and are making new shoots.
