  • Find your frost dates here........

I don't know if this is of use to others but if you find your nearest town it will tell you what your last frost dates are for this year.

First and last frost dates for towns and cities in the UK and USA

I've tried that site, but it says early May for Cambridge, which I think is a tad on the early side. Probably the average last frost is then, but by definition not every year is average

Still, good for getting a general idea to start from!

early May for Stoke on Trent?

Since we have had snow in June (lasted only a few minutes), I treat the site as worthless.

I have always found that site very helpful for growing tips And snow in June is a rarity

It is wrong for Glasgow from personal experience, as well as the long term data from the Met office.
For large-scale detailed maps for every month of the year, covering the average temperatures, rainfall, air frost, ground frost, snow cover, sunshine, thunderstorms, go to

I find that site very innacurate 21 Again.
It gives my last frosts as early May. Everybody here knows we can have frost until the end of May.
And first frost as mid October - but we've all had it in September.
I find it better to go by personal experience.
But thanks for the link. How does it work for your area.

I haven't used the site before (I'm a newbie gardener so haven't had the need to look for frost dates before) only found it yesterday and thought it must be ok, obviously not by the look of it.

The title of the thread is ' Find your frost dates here ' so perhaps if others use more dependable sites they could put the links in this thread.

Planting out after the last expected "average" frost date is a bit like buying a car.

You know if you wait a few months the later models will have more features built-in, be safer, be more economical and last longer.

So you wait a while before buying.

But then you know if you wait a few more months the later models will have more features built-in, be safer, be more economical and last longer.

                            Etc.... etc... etc...

Use the dates as a guide. If your garden/plot is sheltered the last frost may be a bit earlier, if exposed it may be later....

... but at some point you have to bite the bullet and risk planting out !!!!

looks like a good site for other things too, just had a quick brouse regarding veggies, it says early may for my last frost which again sounds about right for here. the weather is so unpredictable that you never know just want you are going to get.
