I thnik I may have the dreaded cucmber mosaic virus. I have a picture but I can't see how to post it here. Can anyone tell me how to do it please?

Have you grown cucumbers before?
The oldest leaves usually look bad. I cut them off for instant improvement. You only need to worry if the entire plant looks diseased. -
Probably nothing to wordy about - most diseases take a while to build up in an area where you are growing things - so you'd be really unlucky to get something serious on your plants, if you are just starting out.Comment

I've grown cucumbers for the last 5 years or so. I grow the small cucumber varieties in a large pot in a small greenhouse. The older leaves go dry and crackly most years of course, but this looks different. A few leaves have bright yellow patches on the surface, but not following the veins. A thin yellow line around the edge of the leaf too. The undersides look grey'ish under the patches of yellow. Not every leaf affected. No flowers yet.Originally posted by veggiechicken View Post

Are your plants small or well established. If my well established cucumber plants look as if they are dying halfway through the Summer I give them a one off foliar feed of Epsom Salts (magnesium sulphate) but if your plants are young I can't see that being the problem.Comment

Sounds a bit like a deficiency problem - I'm no expert on cucumber growing, so I can't say for sure - is the compost you are using any different to the sort you've used previously ?Originally posted by MikePhillips View PostComment

I don't think compost is much different this time. We have had some really funny weather this year of course. Very cold June, and not much sun either. Growth was very slow indeed to start with (planted young plant into large pot in early-May, but finally started to climb the cane three weeks ago). After reading all the replies I am going to wait a week or two to see how things progress. If all goes OK, then great. If my Peppers and toms all start to die then I will know if it was a virus! Too late do do much anyway as the toms almost brush against the cucumber, and the peppers are about 18-inches away. Did I say it was a small greenhouse?
