  • Celery

Well something is liking all this rain almost as much as the grass, I keep adding a layer of the weed membrane as it grows hoping enough light is excluded to blanch the stems.

I am growing Robinsons Mammoth Pink, a trench variety, not grown it before so it will be interesting to see what I get.

It's looking good burnie, I've tried celery without success twice so I used the rest of the seeds for micro veg. Might try again using your way .
        Location....East Midlands.

I 've given up on trench celery. I grew a fantastic looking crop one year. I couldn't wait to try it.

Every single stem of every single plant was slug-eaten when I dug it up.

I was so depressed I've never tried again.

              Wow, those look amazing!

I have never managed to get celery more than an inch high, but am hoping to do better next year after chatting to the chaps selling NVS raffle tickets at the show I went to last month ;-)

Apparently it doesn’t like it’s roots being constrained or drying out, so I need to pot them on much much sooner (rather than waiting til they’re bursting out of their pots like I do with most stuff). It’ll be interesting to see how long I can keep up with twice daily watering, but has to be worth a try given the examples they had on display!

                Congrats burnie, that looks great.

After several years of various failures with celery I've given up until I have more time to devote to it. Carol loves it, I'm a bit meh!

I only grow small quantities of most things as we like them fresh, so only 6 plants grown, but it seems this could get 3 feet tall, that will be some stick of celery with a sandwich. No idea when you pick it, I may try lifting a plant at the endo f the month.

I have tried a few times and the results have always been poor...mine always ended up looking like sick coriander.

I hope their continue doing well Burnie

i've grown Evening Star in the past and it has a gorgeous pink blush which is lovely on the show bench. This year I grew a variety called Discovery/ It grows tall and very clean but I didn't take it to the NVS National show last week because to me it didn't carry enough weight. However. apparently although it doesn't become heavy, it grows many times the number of stalks of the usual exhibition varieties. So a non starter for the bench but a good un for the kitchen
