  • greenhouse smoke generators

On beechgrove today they were discussing cleaning out your greenhouse Jim mentioned sulphur candles yet i have looked online and i think nobody sells them

Fumigation This means clearing the greenhouse of all pests and diseases. Firstly, all plants should be removed.
The ventilators also need to be checked so that they stay closed throughout the fumigation process. Also, block up the door.
Garlic candles can be used for fumigation.
This will keep any pests at bay. However, Jim prefers the use of sulphur candles which will kill off both pests and diseases for this time of year
Fumigation should be done late afternoon when the temperatures in the greenhouse are between 15-20℃ for the first 2-3 hours. In the morning open it up again.
anybody know if you can still get sulphur candles???

Used the Vitax as the tin it was in was the same as the sulphur candle was in. Fired it up and left it overnight. Next morning opened the greenhouse and the pests were still there. Complete waste of money.
Used the sulphur candles in the past and in the morning the greenhouse looks clean. All the algae on the grass even dead.

Tried the smoke candles yesterday. They were only about 2/3rds. the size of the other make I used. Brilliant the greenhouse is looking clean again. Just need to power wash and that is it ready for next spring.
              Thanks Deano.

Just wondering about the smoke candles [not the sulphur ones]. Have used garlic sprays but they have never worked for me. Has anyone used the garlic smoke candles. Fancy giving them a go in the summer to try and sort out the pests that come in the windows.
                Thanks.

                  Garlic smoke

I've used the Garlic Smokes from the organic garden catalogue, they absolutely reek during use & made the garden quite wiffy for a few days after.

However they did appear to do the job required, & sorted the pesky lingering whitefly.

Will need to give them a try. Trying to spray under the leaves is impossible at times.
                    Thanks.
