  • Pressure Cooker recipe books

Can anyone recommend a good recipe book for pressure cookers that is written for the UK market and not the American type. I am a bit confused looking at the ones on Amazon as to what books are written for whom. With respect i prefer not to buy a book written for the American market due to the availability of the ingredients in the UK , and also your measurements differ vastly from ours.
I am not a stickler for measurements, but as i have just purchased my first pressure cooker i would prefer to have a rough idea o measurements afor i wing it on me own completely with it.

Soooooo..... i am looking for a good ' ENGLISH' book o pressure cooker recipes to start me off an would appreciate any other advice you have on the subject o newbie pressure cooking.

    Many thanks.

This one has got a great review (better than the others on Amazon): Pressure Cooking the Easy Way: Keane: Amazon.co.uk: Books

what I would do, is order all that you can on the subject from your library before you spend any money.

Hiya Two_sheds, I did look at that one, but as it only had 1 review i wasn't sure if it were in the American format or not
Think it might be a good idea to pop into waterstones and see if they have a copy or not so i can have a good look at it.

It does look like the most promising so far though

Wren, I've pulled up your library's list of books - there're 16 on there. Perhaps you could order them and have a browse before you buy? Keyword search

This is something I've often thought about doing.
I have memories though of soggy /brown veg and tasteless meat.
HOWEVER...the FRench use them all the time!
Must try and find out some of their secrets!!

I didn't realise the library had a service like that! excellent stuff! Thanks for that Two_sheds!

I were chatting to a customer the other day an she has had one for years. She say's stewing beef is melt in the mouth perfect in 20 Min's and chicken joints with meat falling off the bone in the same time too. I figured that the fuel saving would be worth it in just the meat alone with steak an kidney pie etc as apposed to 5 hours in a conventional oven.

Veg is cooked in the same way as a steamer ( only faster because it's under pressure), it's kept separate from the water via a basket with a divider inside and the steam cooks it so it maintains colour an vitamins.
Pressure cookers have evolved over the years too Nicos and now come with safety valves to they don't take off
I will let you know if it's as good as it all sounds or not though.

I use pressure cooker for the things it is good at. Pulses, stews, root veg, pot roasts, steamed puds. All the things that you can also do in the slow cooker, but a lot quicker. I don't think I ever used a recipe book, just the advice in that section of 'Good Housekeeping cook book'

non-root veg tend to cook so quickly in the pressure cooker that they are often over-done, so I don't bother with that.....

Wren, I've got a booklet that came with our Tower pressure cooker. It's a bit ancient, +/- 25 years. The pressure cooker is gathering dust in the garage, and is unlikely to be allowed back in the house. You are more than welcome to it, but I assume, if you've recently bought a cooker you will have received a basic cookbook.
