  • Anyone made marshmallows before?

I fancy making marshmallows with my OH's kids this weekend.

I've not tried making them before - anyone had any success with them that may want to share some hints, tips or recipes?

Yes, I've done it once and it turned out great, definitely intend to do it again. Was inspired after seeing James Martin do it on one of his cookery programmes.

    Here's the link

I put some red food colouring in to make it a traditional pink colour. The only thing I had to get was the Liquid Glucose, most chemists should stock it.

Mmmmmm... we took a little Hershey Chocolate Fondue back from the States a couple of years ago. Sounds like a good excuse to get it out of the box. Might take some pics of our Mallow Antics.

I'm in the middle of placing a grocery order online - just checked and they stock liquid glucose.

Sounds good, hope it goes well for you. I'm waiting until some of my Strawberries turn from green to red

My strawbs are a long way off yet - however, there's loads of PYO strawb farms near in our village. Woohoo!

Hugh Fearnley Wotsisname coloured his with beetroot juice! No mention of using the herb 'MarshMallow' which is one of the things it was used for in the past. I grew marshmallow last year and it is just a glorified Lavatera!

The only beetroot I have at the moment is soaked in vinegar - pink food colouring for me this time I think.

Yes, I'd forgotten that. Suppose it would be more natural than crushed beetles

The thing with marshmallow (the plant) is the glutinous nature of the sap The "grow your own drugs' man did something with marshmallow, I think for a facial treatment.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
