  • poorly chicken - help

I noticed my white star was not looking great this mrning - she didn't run away from me like she normally does for a start. She is known for her skittishness. In fact I have had her 2 1/2 yrs and only managed to pick her up once for a cuddle!

She is very listless - comb very floppy and the area around her eys is really pale. She is just standing there in a sort of trance and keeps closing her eys like she wants to sleep where she is standing.
She also did some really frothy poo that looked a bit like spit when I was just nar her.

    Any thoughts? Am quite worried.

Sorry, it could be anything. Have you checked her over for parasites? Could she have an egg stuck? May be daft, but could she just be sunbathing?

She certainly doesn't sound well. As G4 says check her and the house for parasites - maybe red mite, have a look to see if she's eggbound, or she may be trying to lay a soft shell. Visit to the vet if you're not sure?

Thanks. I ws worried so have found a chicken vets nearby. He was a proper James Herriot type - all covered in cow poo lol. OH had said we weren't to take them to the vets as they are just chickens but until I knew what was wrong with her I didn't want him to just dispatch her.

He has given her antibiotic injection and some wormer. I do worm them but he said it could be something that has built in the ground. We have had her for 2 1/2 years.

I am now to treat the water so the others get treated too and see how she goes over the next 24 hours. So wait and see I guess.

Does anyone know about not eating the eggs after treatment? They have been given - Baycox

        Thanks

Google says 18 days withdrawal, but I would phone the vet, as some sites say it is different times for different dosages.

          Hope she's OK.
