    Hi All,
I've been a member of Grapevine for quite a while now due to my ever expanding allotmenteering! However yesterday I collected two ex-battery hens from Little Hen Rescue so just wanted to introduce myself. I've kept hens before but had rather a long break from it until my long-suffering partner gave in and agreed I could get some. I've called them Margo and Barbara and since putting them in their house last night at 7pm (it was quite late when we collected them) we've had three eggs!!! One soft shelled but all the same! They seem quite happy and are already picking at the grass and other greens. Wish I could post some pics, they are so bald and underweight! Will keep you posted on their progress. Edited as I forgot to say poor Barbara has her wing bound up with packing tape (This Way Up) !!! as the tip had been broken and the large flight feathers were dragging the break apart so hopefully this will hold it in place til it heals!

Well done you for rescuing Barbara and Margo Ahhhhhhhhhh The Good Life

I hope Barbara's wing heals ok, packing tape sounds a good idea, and it's probably something you won't need to remove as it'll come off naturally when she moults. fingers crossed for her anyway
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

you wont regret having them. ive got 2 ex bats in my little flock of 4. Had them since last summer and i was sure they wouldnt last the week - poor little things. They are absolutely thriving, and producing an egg each most days. It just goes to show that its the way they are kept that is the problem, not that their laying days are over.

Best of luck to you all.

Congrats on your ex-batts. I'm now down to 3 and thinking it's time to add some more.

I can't believe i've had my girl's 2 months now! Time has just flown past.
And finally... they have stopped pecking at poor Baldy, she is now getting her neck feathers back.

Congrats on the rescue, my only question is... when you getting some more?
It's a well known fact, that once you had a couple, you need more to add to you flock.
