  • How much do you pay for your egg boxes?

And if they are cheap, where do you get them?

I have a note on my honesty box saying " Please return boxes".........but nobody does.

It costs me about 7 pence for each box at the local tattie and egg shop.

They are made of paper mache and I'm even considering using one of them as a mould by covering the back with glass fibre. I have an endless supply of newspaper so should be able to produce my own paper mache boxes very cheaply, methinks!

Friends and family save theirs for me, and I sometimes get my own back for re-filling. I did buy 100 ages ago and I think they cost me a fiver. I've still got quite a lot left, but I'm contemplating telling people I'll knock 10p off half a dozen if they bring their own boxes

We have 2 sorts Pink ones which cost us £7.66 for 60 and plain grey ones which cost us 5p each both from flyte so fancy.

Apart from that we pick them up at sales and auctions if they are cheap!

I bought a box full cheaply on eBay. Sorry, I can't remember how much they were, but I haven't had to open the packet yet, as friends and family save theirs for me, and my customers send them back too. It may be due to the big felt pen note I've written on the boxes!

Is it worth putting a 'Wanted' on Freecycle? I have been known to ferret them out of the orange re-cycling bags that we have around here (not for me though, pass them on to friends who need them - my four have their eggs put into 3 boxes which are endlessly re-cycled!).

We bought ours from Countrywide farmers a while ago and I cant remember exactly how much but when I worked it out the cost including labels (I couldn't work out the price of ink) it came to about 8p

I charge 80p half dozen and 75p with returned box. Most of my boxes do get returned and I haven't bought new boxes in 2 1/2 years

On a similar note - how much do others charge for their eggs sold 'at the gate'?

Friends and family save theirs for me, though I do know I could get them from my local animal supplies place where I get my straw from. Im not sure how much they are though.

I can't believe you charge so little for your eggs I've just increased mine to £1.20 for 6! That's still cheaper than the supermarkets' so-called free range eggs that are about £1.80 round here. And mine are fresher!

i charge £1 for six, and get family, friends, lottie holders & workmates to save egg boxes for me, not that I'm selling many as they're not laying at the moment, so I have the opposite problem Snadger loads of egg boxes & no eggs

A dude at work charges £1 for the box - and you get 6 eggs free.

We get £2 a dozen and people are happily paying that and coming back week after week (well except for those that we convinced to keep their own chooks!!) They are quite large eggs, the smaller ones I get £1.80 a doz, the bantam eggs are obvioulsy hatching eggs and I get somewhere in the region of £15 a doz for them depending on breed sometimes more sometimes less!!

Well, with only 4 chickens I never have enough to sell - but when I give them to family and friends they know I want the box back. People save boxes for me too. Good job, as I've got half a dozen upstairs with the chitting taters in!

                              Same here....

I sell mine at work, and when the girls are in full lay, probably sell between 24- 36 eggs a week.

I sell them for £1 for 6, and people give me their eggs boxes back, and some just collect them for me.

I could raise my price, but I'm not in it for the money! I get enough back to put towards the feed price, so I'm pretty happy about it.
