  • How embarrassing !

    Oooohkay,

Fancied a couple of hybrids and the chicken man said "those lay blue eggs"....Job done purchased 2 !

Cant for the life of me remember what breed he called them !

They are a light grey, any ideas ?????

Probably cream legbars. Greyish body with a light brown breast? They are not really a hybrid as they do breed true, but have been developed relatively recently from crossing Araucanas with other breeds which I can't remember!

Do they have a little crest? Not all CLs seem to, but most do.

And Liza, you know everyone will want to see PICCIES, don't you?!!

google cream legbar and see if they look like that - but grey and brown with funny "hair-dos" that lays bluey eggs is a cream legbar.

AND I felt sorry for one buff orp, had no claws so got it cheaper. I KNOW I am a sucker for something a bit off the norm. Chicken man said it had previously had Bumblefoot but was ok now. Tell me I haven't made a big mistake PLEASE !

Errrrrrr - well I always say never buy a bird that is not 100% in every way fit and healthy, with all its bits. But hopefully she will turn out to be a good hen. Don't quite understand why it would have its claws removed for bumblefoot though. Bumblefoot is a type of abcess on the underside of the foot, often caused by landing heavily (think heavy/fat birds jumping off a high perch), or a puncture wound to the sole that heals over on the surface and traps dirt inside, causing a ball of pus to develop.

Thats what I thought, just felt a bit sorry for her, otherwise she seems fine ,eating ok.

She even faced up to my Jack Russell Holly through the wire when she got too close !

I think an Araucana cockerel crossed with any chook wil give chickens that lay blue to green eggs depending on what breed the mother was!

Ps Forgot to mention......congratulations on your new purchase!
