  • Glutton's a Granny!!!!!! :D

OK, I went to investigate this morning, and found seven little fluffy things!

I'm not allowed anywhere near her, and I'm glad I put OH's welding gloves on, as she really went for me. So I have no idea how many there are hatched, or anything. Watch this space!

                      Nutter!

OK, here's the latest picture. I've been brave and removed the old shells, she was helpful and threw them out the nest for me! It looks like ten chicks from twelve eggs. I will get Mr. G. to lift her out this evening, so I know for sure, and I'll chuck any that haven't hatched. Mum has pulled the Chick Crumb up to her chest and is pigging it down her and teaching the babies how to eat it. They are tucking in to the food and water quite happily.

                      I can't stop grinning!

Don't chuck the unhatched yet- give them a bit longer....there could be live chicks in there
You could try gently tapping on them and listening carefully for the next 24 hrs.
Are you able to candle them??
In most of my hatches there have been at least 24 hrs between first to last egg hatching!

One egg I found was cold, the other was luke warm, but that was earlier. I pushed them back under her, but I think she's more interested in the babies now, although, she hasn't shoved the eggs out yet!

Just been down and checked again. Ten healthy chicks, two un-hatched (but warm) eggs. The brown one rattled when I shook it (gently), the fawn one didn't, and has a nasty dark colouring to the shell. It also has a bit of a crack in it, so, just in case it's pipping, we put them both back under her, and left her alone.

Twelve out of twelve would be a bit unlikely, I reckon! But we can hope!
