    2 Weeks On – What’s Actually Growing?

It’s been just over two weeks since I sowed my autumn and winter veg, and it’s starting to look promising in the greenhouse! The pak choi has really taken off, radish is shooting up nicely, and even the beetroot is putting in a bit of effort. A few things are taking their time, but that’s part of the fun seeing what surprises come through and what might need a second go.

I’ve also been experimenting a bit more with hand pollinating the sweetcorn and making sure the tomatoes are neatly nipped out. Still enjoying the process and learning as I go!

If you fancy having a look, I’ve shared a full update on my YouTube channel, along with a short version too and the same goes for TikTok if that’s more your thing.

Let me know how your autumn/winter sowing is going in the comments and especially if you’ve had any surprise successes (or failures!).

Sorry for taking so long to get back. One thing I noticed, you don't pot on your brassicas as deeply as I do. But I don't have a greenhouse, so I try to keep plants short so they don't get buffeted about so much by the wind, which isn't so much of an issue for you.

A couple of questions. Your spring onions looked more like brassicas, or did I miss something? And Andraste is right, you keep your soil a lot drier than me. Do you mostly water from underneath?

I do like your spray. Very nice piece of kit. Your sweetcorn is looking good, by the way.

Good spot as I sowed spring onions but when I made the video got myself mixed up 😂 (the spring onions are in the ground now and doing well). Both in my greenhouse and in my raised beds I keep the soil drier than most, to try and conserve water and the drip irrigation helps with that. Seems to be working ok for me but it’s good to hear how others do things as still got lots to learn. Sweetcorn seems to love the drier soil and I like growing it especially now that I hand pollinate them to improve the kernels and fuller cobs.

Whatever you're doing with your watering, it's obviously working!
