  • What can I sow NOW!! (Late July/August)

I have just got a plot well my second but I only actually had the first for about a week then found out it floods so have moved.

My new plot does not need as much work to get it ready to plant I think a few good hours will have a good area cleared. About 25% of it is eaither lawn or shrubs - lawn staying long term the shrubs are going.

I am thinking I still have time to get in some carrots, can any one suggest anything else I could get planted either to eat this year or in preperation for next.

Also if I clear all the weeds from teh beds should I plant green manure for over the winter?

Still just time for planting leeks and PSB if you can find any plants

I've just cleared second earlies and sowed Mooli, Chinese radish, Kohl Rabi & turnips
Shortly will be sowing rocket, landcress and lambs lettuce for winter-early spring production.
More salad leaves and lettuce would be possible if you arrange a cover for one bed

I agree about green manure, dont like to see areas left bare all winter. You can sow phacelia now although it doesn't always survive the winter. Ryegrass and winter tares will grow all winter and can be dug in in spring

Potatoes will get damaged by frost so they need to be in containers that you can move somewhere frost free.

Ohhh... I wondered what psb was and didn't like to ask.
On the same line I had a revelation whilst sitting in work today - I realised what BIL, SIL, MIL, FIL was. Got some funny looks from colleagues mind when I jumped up off my chair .. but nothing new there, they already think I'm bonkers anyway.

                              Welcome to the madvine EllieSW17,

Anyway end of October you can sow broadies and first early peas.

                              I'm currently sowing.........
                              Oriental radishes
Carrots in containers so I can move them inside to carry on over winter.
Spring Onions are pretty useful and winter hardy - White Lisbon

Also soon onion sets and garlics, and japanese onion from seeds too.
Then there's rocket and oriental spicy leaves, winter hardy lettuce and corn salad.
