    water logged pots

    My tomato pots have taken a bit of a soaking what with all the rain and are soaked through.

    I've tended not to water the plants in the past but the soil always seems to be damp.

    Is there something I'm not doing? The plants are in the shade (I can't get them to a sunny spot) and I've put some stones in the bottom.

    Any suggestions? Thanks

    Tomatoes are thirsty beasts, the pots will soon dry out again.

      Mine are always always damp because I have dishes under them. I was under the impression that this wouldn't matter as long as they didn't smell and start to rot. Is this right Two Sheds? If it is, dgunner, you should be ok then? But... Surely they'll need a bit of sun?

        As far as I am aware, ripening is dependent upon heat rather than light. Obviously we connect sunlight with heat but it's not necessary if ambient temperature is high.

          Are there holes in the bottom of the pots.

            I think we had a science lesson about this once, needs light for leaves to photosynthesise, but heat for fruit... I'm gonna go investigate! Thank you!
