    Starting a Strawberry Patch

    Hi All,

    I got my planned strawberry patch dug over today. I have been looking at plants and seen some crowns in wilkos and the local centre is doing 4 plug plants for £1.60.

    My question is how best to get them in. Nothing seems to commit to firm times on line but many say late spring. With strawberries normally being hardy would there be a problem with planting these sooner, or do I need to be patient?

    How big are the plants? They are indeed very hardy but they might need hardening off somewhat after being in the shop. I've got some runners outside in 3" pots and they'd be fine even if they were snowed on etc but they've been outside since I potted them off the parent plants. Another thing to think about is the state of the ground at the moment, I'd be inclined to put them in pots for now with a bit of protection, maybe a cold frame for now if you have one and then plant in the proper bed in the spring.

    Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

      Established plants are very hardy. I grow in containers an never have a problem what every the weather.

      However as said above these are new plants and you don't know how they have been brought on. A little TLC will go a long way.
