  • Newbie here - with sweetcorn question

Hi am trying this year to grown some vege have grown mini corns and the flower things have come out the top for last few wks and now have large fat things which i assume is the corn coming from the stem one plant have lots of threads coming off it and the other you can just see the threads starting on other 3 plants.

Can some one tell me when i should harvest them or are they not ready???

    Any advice much appreciated.

Hi Chon, when the silks go brown the cobs should be ready to harvest.

        Welcome Chon.
        Well done with the corn.
As T8Ter says, when the stringy bits go brown and crispy, they are done.
I got 3 this last weekend out of the 6 that I planted earlier this year. They were small but perfectly formed and I was dead chuffed (as I had put them in later than advice says), so I know exactly how good it feels.
Let us know what else you try and how it grows. No shortage of advice on here.

Harvest when the silk tassels begin to show, prior to pollination. Don't wait until they've turned brown, like you do with normal big sweetcorn

I have loads of cobs on my sweetcorn plants which we grew due to success last year.

Problem is........although tassles have been brown for some time........when I peel back outer leaves. the corn is still white???

How much longer to leave it?

Panic over............lol......picked two today and when completely uncovered they are yellow. (Must have looked white in the bright sunlight.)

Will be having them for lunch today.

Got loads so not sure whether to pick all and freeze or pick over next coming weeks?

Dont want them to go past their best.

Not sure what variety they are either.

Pick and freeze. They go over pretty quickly
