  • Lots of glass panes from old greenhouse - what can I do with them?

    Afternoon all,

My neighbour has some old greenhouse glass panels and I'm thinking of making a cold-frame. I also have raised beds so was thinking of making a nice lid I can put down on them in case of colder temperatures.

Any other uses/ideas I can do with this glass panels.

There used to be wire frames that loosely-ish held sheets of glass that could be strung together in a row as a cloche. They were lethal! and I can't imagine the join between them was very air tight, but I suppose they must have worked reasonably well? I think I still have a stack of the metal frames lying around somewhere ...

A bit like these Barn Cloches:

So, on balance, I think perhaps better you stick to your cold frame idea

You can now buy plastic cloche clips the look much easier to use than the metal ones.

          Barn Cloche Wires available here:
          High Barn Cloche
for £12 - that's exclusing glass but ... for how many? Blinking expensive if it is for one! although would be OK if it is for a pack of 100

I made my own for the glass from my old greenhouse. I used silicone to adhere 100mm clear polythene membrane on one edge (50mm overhang), then tent the glass overlap to overlap and secure with bulldog clips
