  • leek seedlings

    hi,just a quickie,should my leek seedlings have tiny amount of yellow tip on?the seedlings are only 40-50mm tall..
    totally mad on growing veg and keeping bantams!!!!

    They might have. I wouldn't worry. I don't worry about much in the garden - most of it comes right in the end.
    Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

      Hi Yeti, if you look at the rest of your seedlings you might notice they come out doubled over, the yellow bit will more than likely be what was under the compost, if it is it's nothing to worry about, you might still have some with the seed still attached . Here's a photo of some of mine to see what I mean.

        The first leaf dies off quite quickly, in fact I sometimes strip it off if its looking a bit dodgy when I re-pot them!

            I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite,the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
