  • Hana f1 cucumbers

    Hi all.

I have just started growing cucumbers in my conservatory and have had good results from femspot f1. So I thought I would try Hana f1. It’s growing well and we’ve been feeding and watering regularly, however the cucumbers on the Hana plant are round and spikey! Are we doing something wrong? They taste ok when peeled but look nothing like the picture on the tag. Help anyone???

    Hello and welcome.

I've not grown these before so had a look. The pictures I've seen don't look round and spikey. I doubt very much it's the way you're growing them but that the seeds are not Hana. One thing you could do is check with the seed supplier to see if they can give you any information or supply you with Hana seeds for next year.

Good that at least they taste OK. It's very disappointing when you find yourself growing the wrong seed and your harvest is horrible.

I would google round cucumber varieties there lots of them some spikey and see if you can identify your plant.

        Hi Panda and welcome!
Did you buy the plant? Perhaps from Homebase? I'm sure I saw Hana there last year.
If you bought a plant, maybe the labels have been mixed up?
Spiky cucumbers are usually outdoor ones.

Spiky cucumbers is not a problem, its very common on some breeds.

Just wash them off by rubbing them when you clean it.

            Round cucumbers

Thank you all for your advice.

Yes it was bought as a small plant from a reputable garden centre (not Homebase).

I think that you are all right, the tags must have been mixed up.

I will move it outside and will have the pleasure of something different in the cucumber world!!

I’m growing Hana. Definitely not round or spiky. Medium size in length and relatively fat for its length but certainly looks like a conventional cucumber shape and very smooth in comparison to other varieties I’ve grown.
