Compost help please!

Composting Advice

I spent a very damp but energetic day yesterday "sorting" my composters. (I have six!!)
Having only two composters, the best way to achieve a quick result would to fill just one until it's about two thirds full, then transfer it into the empty bin, meaning that the newest addition will then be on the bottom. A certain amount of mixing will take place during the process. You should then start filling ther newlly emptied bin, leaving the mixed one to "cook" for a few weeks. It would not hurt to get a fork into it during this time and stir it up a bit. Also don't forget to check it's moisture content. Too much or too little moisture will inhibate composting.
I had neglected my composters over the summer and consequently lost control of my rotation method. This took quite a lot of work to resolve but I'm pleased to say that order has now been restored and I managed to glean nine feed-bags of ready to use compost! Well worth the effort.
Can't wait for this dratted weather to let up so I can start work on my newly acquired allottment!!

Thankyou for your advice. I could do with more compost bins but just don't have the room in my garden. I do have a wormery though, so I can put a certain amount of waste in there. I bet you can't wait to get on your allotment. This weather is so frustrating. There's so much I want to do outside and I can't get out!! I don't know which part of the country you're in but we've had a thaw now from last weeks snow and today it's rained non stop!
