    Carrots Germination

    Hi All,

    Just wondering how long carrots will take to germinate outside?

    I planted them outside under a cloche last Thursday.

    I'm hopeful for an answer to this as well! I planted mine 2 weeks ago and still nothing!

      The ones I sowed about this time of year last year took almost a month to show properly (although they had no cover) and it was a darned site warmer according to my records so it might be a while yet.

      Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

      Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

        Mine have been under a bell cloche for 2 weeks, no sign yet. Will have to be patient.

          I planted some carrots (Adelaide F1) in my cold frame on 9th March and they've only appeared over the past four days. Early Nantes planted in bed, under fleece, on 14th March are just up - so that's just over two weeks. Patience folk, patience ....

              Me too, in raised bed under fleece protection, yellow, purple, red and orange sowed nearly 3 weeks ago now and nothing to see yet. Patience, patience.

                It's too cold to be sowing carrots

                They like it warmer: a soil temp of at least 10C

                  I sowed Nantes 2 early variety, packet says sow outdoors Feb - June, I sowed mid-March

                    It says Feb because some people do have a soil temp of 10C (like in a heated greenhouse, or in Cornwall/S.Devon)

                      Mine took a month, the last week I had them under a cloche, and since putting htem under that, they've popped up (may be a coincidence).

                        I've not sown any yet. I reckon 3 to 4 weeks in the decent weather.
                        Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

                            I've sowed some in the polytunnel but won't be sowing outside for a while yet. Did my main sowing mid April last year but have my suspicions it may be later this year.
