  • Identification needed please, Growing Bananas

Hi Everyone, I am new to this great forum so I hope I am writing this question in the right place

I wonder if anyone could please tell me what species of banana plant this is? it's now over 6 feet tall, growing like wild fire! Grown from a seed but I have no idea of it's proper name or how large it may grow
    Many Thanks

    Hi Bubbles and welcome.
Sorry but I know nothing about growing bananas but this supplier has seeds of many different varieties Banana Seed from JungleSeeds
How much does it matter to you, knowing which one it is?

Hi. Thanks for your quick response.
I'm wondering because I never expected it to grow so fast and get so tall. I don't really know what to do with it now as I have no green house, lol

The slightly hardier varieties of banana can be grown outside in the south.
After the first frost blackens the leaves, you cut them all off, put a chicken wire cylinder around the stem and pack it with dry straw, capped with a plastic top to shed water.
You then unpack it again after the last frost and it should grow away again. In a hard winter you might loose the whole stem, but it should resprout from the roots unless it was so cold that the ground froze to several inches deep.
