    Autumn

    The swallows, sand martins and devlins have gone. So too have the cabbage whites , and there's a tortoiseshell tucked up in the shed. Most of the bees have gone from the lavender and hyssop. The dunnock and robin are back in the garden, and the wasp trap is filling up.

    There have been big flocks of swallows and martins refuelling here before they flit over the mountains. Still lots of butterflies here. And we still have snow up high - that's the first time in four summers we've been able to see snow from the house at the start of autumn. I guess it'll stay now.

    MH what is a devlin - gurgling only produced info on singers/bands?!

      Last group of House Martins left on their long flight this AM.
      Seem to have had a last early snack, before heading off. What a flight they face too!!
      They deserve all the luck they can get, & mother nature can send their way.

        Devlins are swifts. Don't know whether anyone else calls them that but my Grandfather always did, so all my family and relatives do. Maybe it's just a family thing.

            I love autumn, it's my favourite time of the year...almost well, spring is great too. But autumn has blackberries and there are absolutely loads of them this year. I love the colours and the autumn sunshine, walks in the woods and the kids going back to school!

                About time.

                Thankfully this coming week is the week that I've started university these past few years, and each time it's been absolutely roasting, even up in Newcastle. Total t-shirt and shorts weather.
