  • Where do you get your seeds etc?

I've been lucky enough to get an allotment but now need to think about the practicalities of buying seeds etc for spring.

Where do you get your seeds from and any tips for a first time allotment grower? I know only to buy what we'll eat.....

Join NASLG and then get cheap seeds from Kings as a NSALG member. Most allotment sites are members as it covers the site for insurance but you will need to pay your site the £2 annual fee and ask them for a seed catalogue. If your site isn't a member then you can join as an individual but I think its costs a bit more per year.

Th year I went to a seedy sunday event for the first time. It was great there were loads of people there with their seeds wanting to swop and also swoping advice, comments etc and a cup of tea. A great event, I found my nearest one on the internet

Wilkinsons, B&Q, Local GC, Simply Seeds, Thompson Morgan sometimes for plants. Seedparcel on here a couple of times but since a parcel went missing in the post it put me off doing that.

I got a few packets of cheap seeds from Lidl last year and found some unusual varieties. The packets didn't have a word of English on them, but I figured out what to do!

I also seed-swap with colleagues at work.

I visit a large allotment site close by. They have a shop which sells Kings seeds at vastly reduced prices and will sell them to anyone!

Although at our lottie society we can order Kings seeds at well below internet prices, my first port of call is Wilkinsons 75% off sale in september. I Sit down at home with my seed packets once september starts, do a list of what i need for next year and, using my free bus pass, go furtling though the thousands of packets in the big Wilkinsons in town.
