  • Chilli Growing

Can anyone help! I have a small amount of balcony space which i'd like to use, especially to take advantage of the permanent sunshine in Dubai! I was hoping to grow chillies - can I grow them from normal chilly seeds? Can you recommend anything else that's simple and will grow in this good climate?
    Thanks!

Moziec welcome to the forum. Wow Dubai that must be a lovely place to live. I would think that chillies would grow great on your balcony as well as peppers. Green house tomato varieties should do well and with all that sun they should taste gorgeous. Ferline tomatoes can be grown indoors or outdoors and it is a good consistant variety. I would also grow a plum tomato variety - Inca is a good one. Just make sure you keep them watered. Don't let them go dry and then give them lots of water because they don't like that. Normal chilli seeds is all you need. Take a look at www.thompson-morgan.com I have always found their seeds reliable.

      F1

Make sure that the chillies aren't an F1 variety or they will be no goer. Also you may end up with a new variety due to pollination if you are taking from collected seed.

When I said normal chilli seeds are all you need I meant for you to buy a packet of chilli seeds because as Andrewo says if you save the seeds out of a chilli pepper that you bought from the shops you don't know if they will grow true.

Seeds saved from a chilli might not grow true but then again they might, I have a scotch bonnet plant that is just about to start its 3rd season and is still going great guns, i had over 50 chillis off the 1 plant last year so it is worth a go isn't it?
