My New Blog & What I Have Done So Far...

I thought this year I would be more organised generally and keep a record of what I do on the allotment. And what better way than on this blog.

So what have I done so far?

Back last year in around November time I think, I planted Broad beans, garlic and onions at home in toilet rolls or newspaper tubes.

The broad beans took a long time to show themselves, but finally did after more than 3 weeks. I was about to give up on them when the first came through and the others were close behind.

The garlic had mixed results. I bought some from T&M, purple wight and elephant garlic. Planted these and nothing happened for over a month. I uncovered one and found nothing happened and looked like it was rotting. At the same time as planted the T&M ones, I planted two bulbs of sainsburys organic garlic. These came up within two weeks. I decided to only plant out the shop bought garlic and gave up on the T&M bulbs. I planted out the shop ones which filled the bed nicely. I turned out the T&M bulbs so I could reuse the seeds tray which the toilet rolls were stood in. Guess what was sticking out the bottom and loads of them. ROOTS!!! It turned out that the only bulb which failed was the one i picked to look at. I saved as many as I could and they are currently sat in my mini plastic greenhouse waiting to be sorted out. But they have been sat there for over a month now.
