Week 3 - dreaming of summer

Well this year will be pretty much a repeat of last year planting wise, hopefully not weatherwise, although as I look out the window I do have my doubts.

Some varieties will be changing, didn't do that well with the green bush courgette last year, but will try a different variety, maybe a gold rush or similar. Had five plants in last year and was warned I'd get a glut... the reality was somewhat disappointing, although the fruits we did harvest were excellent.

Garden Peas are so off the menu this year, has 20 plants in tubs last year but yield was pretty low, not ideal conditions I know but I could use the psace for something else this year.

Strawberry production will be a big goal this year, absolutely adore strawbs and will be converting a cheap plastic greenhouse structure into a strawberry tabletop planter to discourage the slugs from having parties! Actually thinking about how many slugs there were last year I think it was one of those parties where they swapped carkeys if you know what I mean

Salad leaves are always a great favourite, and one of the real pleasures is picking leaves fresh in the morning to go into sandwiches to take to work.

Green beans of course will make an appearance, I still have fond memories of being a child and helping my parents collect 40lb of runners one evening. Even allowing for last years dodgy weather we ended up throwing a few lbs away as we couldn't freeze or get through them quick enough, and that was from 16 plants in 4 containers. This years plan is for 12 scarlets and 12 galaxies, and upping the cobras from 8 to 16, oh and getting a freezer to store them in
