Hello everyone, I am 'confined' to the study, as have builders in, so am looking online at Vegetable cages, I am needing to buy something reasonable to cover brassicas, as they are outgrowing their very 'makeshift' environmesh and hoops, I cant find one to fit the bed, apart from very expensive, purpose built, but have found DIY Frames by Agriframes, where you buy all the materials separately and construct yourself, and think I might be able to manage this (!). this way you can choose which netting and extend frame as necessary.

Has anyone used these and can recommend?

    Hi Dotty

I have contructed my cages out of plastic overflow fittings. This allows me to dictate the hieght etc. have a look on Sc&%w Fix.

To make them strong enough I make U shapes using 90 degree elbows and pipe then attach 3 canes (8') across the top and 1 along each side secured with cable ties. I cover mine with debris netting.

It may be a bit excessive but I got my blue pipe from W*ckes...........think it was £19 for 25 metres. You can make the height to what you want with poles or brush handles.

Hi Dottie cut some pieces of old hosepipe about 8 inch long.
a 4foot cane each side of brassica row piece of hose on top .
Bend it in half and point it towards the other one and stick a cane across.

You can make them any height and any width.
plus the netting dont snag when you want to move it.
simple and cheap (better than hoops)
                          cheers peter
