  • Preserving book recommendations

    Hi,
My sister has offered to buy me a preserving book for xmas. I need a bit of a muppet one with fool proof methods.
Is there one you can't live without? Or is there a basic one out there?
    Thanks

The Basic Basics Jams, Preserves and Chutneys by Marguerite Patten really is the best book I have. It's not fancy, hasn't got any fab photos, it's just a paperback etc...but it covers everything and has all the recipes that you will ever need.

Just to add, I rarely look at any other preserving book these days - this is the only one I refer too.

See what books are in the loal library.
I just borrowed dick and James strawbridge's preserves book. Interesting but not worth buying.

I wish I had done this before I bought my Mums' Christmas present last year. She wanted a new chutney and preserve book to make something a bit different. I got her the River Cottage one and she has tried (and liked) two of the recipes but was not really impressed with the book at all. Just two recipes out of a whole book is not a good return!

Thumbs up for this one for me too, mainly use that and also River Cottage preserves which us also excellent.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

... and order whatever your county has: then buy the best.

I usually look at the reviews on amaz0n, order the best ones from my lib service, then buy on ebAy
