  • Potting Table / Bench

I'm in the market for a 'proper' potting table/bench.

We're currently having some work done in our garden and as the new paving looks so very smart my current one (a very tatty white plastic table!) has been consigned to the lottie.

I had found this one which I really liked the look of but they have sold out!

I'm currently googling away to try and find the same one or one very similar and I wondered if the Grapes had any recomendations?

Oh and before anyone suggest making one from pallets that idea has also been banned as a result of the aberrations I've produced thus far!

I've got one with a zinc top, into which is built a soil pit. It's rather useful.

        Thanks both!

I really like the idea of the zinc top and I liked the size of the original one.

This one is a bit closer in size, looks robust and I'm inquiring about getting a zinc sheet to go on the top!

If not I'll wait until spring to see if they get the original one back in stock!

A suggestion! If you put some wheels/castors on the legs you could move it around your paving or under cover if necessary. I have a plastic trolley thingy that was left here, the sort that's used alongside a BBQ, and I use that as my potting bench! Move it around into the sun or shade as the fancy takes me too

            Oooooooooooooh! I like that idea!

I got a reply about the zinc top and sadly it would cost about another £65!

I think I'll hold fire and see if the other one comes back in stock!

I've got an old stainless steel table from a kitchen. Doesn't rust, can be cleaned with water and is small enough to e portable without straining my back. Isn't very big though, about 3 ft by 1.5 foot.

That sounds a better option Taff. My table, which was a birthday/Christmas pressie from my mum is showing odd spots of rust on the zinc.

I always pot in the shed (or inside if it's very dark / cold). In the shed at home I use some old stainless steel staging which I thought would be good for the greenhouse - it wasn't but it's great for general storage and potting - with a plastic tray on top. At the plot OH built me a nice high table (I find that leaning down all the time gives me back ache) out of an old pine wardrobe door - there's a chest of drawers out of my SIL's bedroom underneath which is very handy for storage. Not really sure why I'm sharing this as it's not remotely what you wanted

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Not at all - this is, in all honesty, exactly what I'd like!

Sadly we only have a tiny little, half height, tool shed at home and there isn't much room for a full size one. I would LOVE to have a 'proper' shed to pot up and potter in!

I have a 6x4 shed at the plot but it's crammed full of stuff and I don't tend to pot up or keep seedlings on the plot as I don't tend to get down there everyday... like to keep them at home where I can keep an eye on them!

And this! I don't think he'd approve of me installing that in the garden else that would be awesome!
