What to grow in these?

Are they the blue ones? I once grew some very reasonable cabbages in them.

Yes blue ones. Hadn't thought of cabbages DDL - did you use compost or garden soil? I have six of them so enough to play with

I grew carrots in some last year. I say 'grew', but they didn't. No idea why ... the ones on Lotty did.

I'm now going to sow some lettuce into them

The helpful lady in Tesco who said I could take them said that lettuce grow well in them. Going to plant one up with the seeds that came with the March GYO I think.

I grew variety of lettuce in them as well as radishes.......still got mine from last year....

Shirl if you look on one end of the mushroom tray there is a place to fix a label on without sticking it in the copost .
Also i use them for storing garlic and shallot's in they are ideal because the wind can blow through them..

Fascinating how we all become scavengers once we start growing veg and things. I spotted the cardboard inserts that are in the apple box'es at my local morrisons,so in I went and asked if I could have a few so that I can use them to chit my tatties in. I managed to get one of those plastic dog baskets from the tip and I now use it as my workstation for mixing my compost in

Good find Shirl. They'll be great for salad leaves, spring onions, radish, garlic, shallots, baby carrots, small whiye turnips, kohl Rabbi, spinach, herbs. You can have a great time with them.

I start saving useful plastic containers from mushrooms, grapes, and the like, at this time of year. I find them so useful for sowing bits and bobs. I have to hide them from Mr R, or they end up in the recycling...

I had some of the blue mushroom trays with tatties in last year.

When I came to use them again after standing outside for a while they just fell apart.

Must have been the ultra violet light had caused them to go brittle!

I would have thought they were too shallow for spuds - did you get much crop?

Do not forget to line them with some plastic or similar but if you get some stiff plastic you can make the trays a bit deeper .
And they do biodegrade in the sun..
