  • Visiting the big man in Lapland....

Anyone done one of those trips to visit Santa in Lapland? OH is keen to take our boy but it's such a lot of money - was it worth it? And how many days? You can do it in 1 day but I don't know how feasible that is for a 4 year old, would 2-3 be better?

Our ex-neighbours took their lad, several years ago. I think they went for 2-3 days - it was definitely longer than a day. They said it was far better than they had expected it to be, very well organised, and they felt it was excellent value for money. I think they enjoyed it as much as their lad did.

I am not going to be a lot of use but sometime back I 'knew' a family that annually made the trip. They arranged the itinerary themselves and travelled all the way sleeper train. She said it was an amazing adventure. Enjoyed by everyone.
Try googling a diy trip to Lapland. The planning will be part of the adventure.

My mother in law went with her work - she works in a care home. They took a bunch of old peeps and everyone had a super time. I think they went for a long weekend sort of thing. She loved it, I can only imagine kids would.

I can say though that your 4 year old won't remember it in the long run. We went to New York just before Christmas some years ago when younger son was 4 and elder son 8 - neither of them have any real memories of the trip (which included meeting the big guy in Macey's).

That is so true Shirl. If we are totally honest whatever gift we give to anyone is usually a transient thing. The joy it gives at that moment only. But giving gifts brings us joy also and is well remembered.

We'd booked a trip one year but had to pull out as I was due a back op not long after and my surgeon "strongly advised" that we didn't go due to the nature of travelling once we'd arrived there - (skidoos and reindeer on snow). It was a 3 day trip and the folk we were going with (who did go) said it was a fantastic trip and that we really missed out.

            Yeah, thanks for that.

Would love to go with Bean one day - but we're going to try him out with a Centre Parcs Santa first.

How is your boy when meeting Santa? My friend at work took her two grandchildren 4 and 6. She said the trip was wonderful, but the youngest boy was terrified of Santa!

He'd probably be ok....as long as we hold his hand.

                Better responses than I expected!

We returned today from Lapland - had a fantastic time, very well done with Naughty Elves, Husky Rides, Reindeer and Santa was excellent!
We were taken by sleigh up a snowy track in darkness by a guide who 'became lost' and had to keep stopping to ask Sam which way to go, which was marked by piles of presents so he knew! Then we arrived at a log cabin in the woods where some Naughty Elves were warming themselves around a fire, they spent some time doing tricks and making snow angel with him to put him at ease then asked him if he knew who lived in the cabin. When we went in his eyes got so round it was really sweet - he knew it was the real Santa!
Definitely worth doing and Lapland is so beautiful and pristine with waist deep snow and a 1.2km toboggan run (-20, the hairs inside your nostrils freeze very strangly!)
Got back 36hrs later than planned due to a few inches in this country, via a different airport....and the taps in the kitchen have frozen...but still a great time!
