Had a weigh in this week

A small selection of scrap from my plot

Cast and aluminum is from the allotment.

A grand total £ 32.99 of buried rubbish
This is about half of this years rent
I feel the council should be paying me to clear
    the plot !

Had to provide ID and plus a utility bill
And sign a form saying I was the legal owner
    Of this scrap ?

Also got 1/2 tonne bag of broken glass not sure
What to do with it .

Ask your local council what facilities they have for disposing of broken glass. You may be able to take it to your local recycling centre.

Lucky you. That means your council tax won't go up to pay for replacing all the drain covers that now won't be nicked from the streets where you live. They have twice been stolen from the road into our village - 15 at a time, leaving gaping holes in the gutters that were a huge danger to cyclists and walkers alike. The latest covers are now tarmac-ed in and have hinges for lifting to clean out. Funnily enough there is a scrap metal dealer not 3 miles away... The new scrap metal laws will reduce thefts of church lead too.
        Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
        Endless wonder.

They only pay out if the value is more than £10 !

Came across a man hole in the middle of a 60mph road last year which had its covers nicked
First thing in the morning , just noticed the colour was diffrent and slowed down
parked the van across it with hazards lights on and waited for police to turn up with some traffic cones

Most of our gullie covers have been replaced with plastic look
          Just the same as iron.
We've even had someone trying to remove the statue commemorating the first world war in the park

The scrap dealer said he gets very little utility scrap now
however still see the vans driving around full of scrap.

The man with the van if he is following all the rules is making very good money these days.

I have one who visits me regularly, correct insurance, licensed waste disposal operator, monies paid by BACS into his bank.

There are some dealers still cheating i.e. paying out in cash etc, but round here the police are cracking down. Roadside checks close to the merchants, undercover police trying to sell scrap to the merchants etc.

You're lucky, the scrap men nick the allotment gates around here!

We're always letting the scrapmen take ours away. Never knew there was so much money in it :/
