  • DIY Advent Calendars

Advent Calendars are everywhere and contain all sorts of "gifts" behind their doors.
When I was a kid (yes, I know, its a long time ago) they were printed cardboard, with little windows that you opened to reveal a festive season, culminating in the Nativity.
Now they contains anything, drinks, perfume, DIY tools and cost more than I'd pay for a present.
One that did appeal was from Victor1ana Nurseries - a Seed Advent Calendar.

Because I'm mean and already have more seeds than I can sow I'm going to improvise and "make" my own!

Each day I'm going to dip my hand into a box of random, unloved seeds and pull out a packet - then sow them. I don't care if its the wrong time of year - Fortune favours the brave and the foolhardy and I'm certainly the latter.

    Anyone else DIY Adventing?

Yes, I remember the cardboard pictures too, though I don’t think I have ever purchased one since I have been ‘grown up’....
Perhaps I should be making matching his&hers advent calendars which open to reveal one of many bits of housework/Christmas preparation which need to be done before 25th, in the hope that I only have to do 50%?

Love it. That has made me chuckle. Wish I could do it but it may spoil the magic for the girls.

As soon as I saw the title I thought of the great GYO advents (cakes, BM'S family, animal, art, Bah-humbug) and thought a seed one would be good. Planting them seems a bit bonkers but I will join. I just so happen to have my seeds in 25 containers. So I will sow 1 seed each day working through the containers. I better get 25 pots of compost in to warm up.

My other half did a DIY advent calendar last year. It was a 24 pack of Carling. Every day he had one can.

There are plenty of gin advent calendars on sale - even at Aldi and B&M!

Last year I was given a jam advent calendar odd really because I'd got a cupboard full of homemade jams.

Can't take any credit for the beautiful robin or snowman they arrive on Christmas cards every year from a very talented friend.

                          That's beautiful, SP.

Can I ask what's in the pockets?

I've butted into NG's Advent Calendar - just waiting to be told to keep my beak out. https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...ent_98216.html

                            Love it SP.

I have never thought or bothered to do a DIY advent before but I am enjoying it and feeling more christmassy for it. Will save more elaborate making for another year.

VC I would never tell you off for posting on one of my threads
