We know it is truly the festive season when the coca cola advert gets shown on tv.
That is when I realise I haven't written any cards, or bought any prezzies, or got the decs out, or decided on turkey, pork or beef.......

Holidays are comin' ... holidays are comin'

With the exception of making the odd edible / drinkable pressie I don't even consider thinking about Christmas until December. I hate the shops shoving it down your throat from about August (sooooo commercial and yet another sign of rampant consumerism which they want to force us into) and house with deccies up early. As a kid we used to have a lovely family time decorating the house the day after we broke up from school and it was still new to us on the actual day.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I used to think that about the shops starting as soon as the kids go back to school in Sept. but it is actually helpful to be able to spread the cost over a few paypackets, so I have changed my opinion now.
I also hate shopping, and the Christmas Crowds really do my head in.

We decorate the first weekend in December usually, unless I am feeling really Scroogy and say 'Bah Humbug' at every available opportunity.

Suppose it depends on how much you spend also, our family has always gone for the small and thoughful pressies and a large one would probably not make it to £30 so the cost is not too much and we tend to put money by throughout the year for big events such as Christmas, holiday etc. Works for us but probably not for all.

Cost depends on the value of the pressie and/also the length of the gift list. We have 4 children/13 granchildren/7 greatgrankids apart from the stepgrankids.
We are not costcutters but to save a lot of hastle we plump for a whole family treat of some kind. The last few years we have gifted weekend S/C luxury apartments in Poole. This year we hope to do similar in the 'Eden' project vacinity. That way we can watch the whole family enjoy togetherness with smiles on our faces.

My Mum used to start buying presents in the January sales, then she had ti hide them for 11 months, but it seemed to work!
I tend to be on the lookout for anything that would suit someone all year, but I only start on REAL Christmas about now, and decs go up when we get there (Spain)!

As others have said, we will buy presents through the year. However, purely Christmas shopping for the home doesn't start until Dec.1st(apart from half price litre bottle of Bailey's if one spends more that £30 in Tesco).
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

Jings ! I just hate all that commercial stuff. Christmas is 25th December - whatever it is all about.
I refuse to even think about it until we are into December.

I agree, Alice - there is enough to get through in a year without wishing November and the first half of December away. If I buy pressies too early I either forget I got them or where I put them...
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I've done most of my shopping, I've just got my Dad to buy for and the elderly Lady across the road she's on her own, they both come to use for Christmas dinner and we always save a prezzie to open after dinner.
