  • Blackcurrants gone mad!

Think the rain came at the right time for them, picked and picked over 4lbs of them last night, going to pick the rest today, then it is onto jam making for me!

Thats why a variety of fruit is good, what is good for one is bad for another. I love cloudberries, which come from Finland a bit like our gooseberry but more delicate in flavour. A good crop of cloud berries is determined by the quantities of mosquitos the previous year to pollunate them, so if you get eaten alive this summer you can pick lots of juicy cloudberries.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Well, didn't even get 2lb of blackcurrants from this bush last year, so planned to chop it down. Managed to get 4 bushes from freeshare to replace it, but never quite got round to chopping bush number one down, because it was under threat, it has come back with a vengenance this year!
Don't mind though as what I don't use for jam I will freeze for puds for the next 12 months.
      Raspberries are doing well too

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
